::: KATE CLINTON
Kate
Clinton's WHAT
THE L? is being called a laugh-out-loud collection
of dangerous humor from "one of the all-time-favorite
lesbian comics living under one of the all-time-worst American
presidents."
"This
essay collection chronicles what happened to lots of Ls: lesbians,
liberals, leftists, lawyers, Ellen, lifestylists, leaders,
lords, liars, lapsed Catholics, lovers and losers in the reign

::: PAMELA HOLM and CHARLIE ANDERS
Pamela
Holm, author of the memoir The
Toaster Broke, So We're Getting Married, and FRESH
YARN contributor, has a new novel out entitled The
Night Garden.
Fellow
San Francisco writer Charlie Anders,
author of the non-fiction book, The
Lazy Crossdresser, also has a new novel just released
called Choir
Boy.
The
Night Garden is, "a quirky tale of people
whose lives are in flux, and who are able to handle their
changed status creatively. It's a charming story where the
essential element, common to all, is a strong sense of self
on which to fall back."
Choir
Boy is "the story of a twelve-year-old choirboy
who wants nothing more than to remain a choirboy, surrounded
by perfect notes, as opposed to his imperfect, quarreling
parents. Desperate to keep his voice from changing, he tries
to injure himself, and then convinces a clinic to give him
testosterone-inhibiting drugs. The hormone pills keep Berry's
voice from deepening but also cause him to grow breasts. Suddenly
Berry faces a world of unexpected gender issues that push
him into a universe far more complex than anything he has
experienced. A
wonderful coming-of-age story about growing up different,
it combines off-kilter humor and its own brand of modern day
magic."

::: MIM EICHLER RIVAS and VICTOR RIVERS
Mim
Eichler Rivas shares a fascinating and true story in BEAUTIFUL
JIM KEY: The Lost History of a Horse and a Man Who Changed
the World.
"The
book tells the story of Jim Key, a sickly, spindly colt who
grew to be one of post Civil War America's most beloved public
figures, 'the most wonderful horse in the world', as he was
often billed in his numerous appearances. We also follow the
almost impossibly dramatic journey of Dr William Key, the
horses' owner, from slavery to wealthy veterinarian to famous
performer to savvy entrepreneur. Not
only the story of an extraordinary horse and an equally extraordinary
man, it also evokes the tragic and tumultuous conditions during
the Civil War and the subsequent Reconstruction. In a time
when America was trying to heal from the most devastating
divisions, Dr Key and his wonderful horse were true uniters
regardless of race or party --or even species."
And
Mim's husband, author, actor and activist, Victor Rivas Rivers,
has just released a new memoir entitled A
PRIVATE FAMILY MATTER, a "powerful chronicle
of how the author escaped the war zone of family violence
-- too often regarded as a 'private family matter' -- and
was saved by love, when most people considered him beyond
rescue. Though
at times his journey is heartbreaking and disturbing, it is
ultimately a triumphant testament to humanity, courage and
love."
